Paul’s Story
Where It All Began
Paul De Luca Barber celebrates 50 years in the same shop in Woolloongabba.
In 1968 a haircut cost 80 cents, and 40 cents for pensioners. First year barber apprentice wage was $14 a week and the average workers’ wage was $60 to $70.
Fifty years later almost all things have changed… almost all. On 15th December Paul De Luca celebrates 50 years in the very same shop he started his apprenticeship in.
It was 1968 when a 15-year-old Paul De Luca walked into the barber shop at 629 Stanley Street, Woolloongabba to ask for an apprenticeship. He was put on and within 6 months had his first trophy under his belt.
Paul finished his apprenticeship in 1973 and in the same year took over the shop. The rest is history.
While many things have changed yet Paul’s dedication, quality and devotion to his customers remains unwavering. That dedication has been rewarded and he now boasts 4 generations of customers.
The barber shop is no longer just a shop. Paul has transformed it into a community hub, where people will pop by for a chat and to catch up with friends in the community.
“Three generations of Raulunis have been having their haircut by Paul. He is without doubt the best in the business. Always has been, always will be. You will not meet a better man. Thank you Paul.“
